Money Laundering Reporting Officer / Compliance Officer

Meliteh Recruiting is seeking a dedicated and experienced Money Laundering Reporting Officer / Compliance Officer (MLRO/CO) to join our client’s team on a full-time basis in Malta.

The successful candidate will play a key role in managing the company's regulatory risks, ensuring compliance with internal and external regulations, and reporting to relevant authorities.

The MLRO/CO is functionally accountable to the Group CCDPO (functional manager) and directly accountable to the CEO (line manager).

Role Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree or above degree (preferably in law)
  • Not less than 2 years of work experience with any EU-regulated financial institution, law firm, or EU regulatory or law enforcement authority in the AML/CFT area
  • Must have a well-rounded and informed understanding of the EU regulatory landscape, specifically AML laws and regulations
  • CAMS and/or ICA certificate in financial crime area would be considered as an advantage
  • Good reputation. Fluent in spoken and written English
  • Legal right to live and work in the EU
Main Duties:
  • Acts as a key point and communicates with the Malta Financial Services Authority and other authorities
  • Acts as MLRO in the Company
  • Investigate and provide analysis of any suspicious transactions in accordance with AML/CFT regulations, and make all appropriate filings to the Financial Intelligence Analysis Unit in Malta (FCIS)
  • Reports information to the FCIS on the asset freeze of persons subject to international sanctions
  • Acts as a designated person for sanctions responsible for the organization of international sanctions compliance measures within the Company, and taking decisions to freeze the funds owned, managed, or controlled by persons subject to sanctions and restrictive measures
  • Liaise and report to regulators regarding AML/CTF, sanctions, and other regulatory matters whenever needed
  • Reports to the CEO and the Board member responsible for the AML/CFT area
  • Provides to the Group CCDPO necessary information and closely cooperates with the Group CCDPO
  • Ensures compliance with local regulations applicable to the Company
  • Follows local regulatory changes and proposes changes if needed
  • Strictly follows the internal Company’s rules
  • Implements local regulatory observations and recommendations and coordinates with all internal and external auditors to ensure that AML/CTF, sanctions, and other regulatory issues are adequately monitored and addressed
  • Advises on local regulatory changes
  • Provides recommendations and advice to businesses on day-to-day activity on regulatory or other AML/CFT matters
  • Liaise with other units and provide guidance, training, and support to the Company’s employees and management on AML/CFT, sanctions, and other local regulatory matters
  • Consult, and provide opinions to the internal stakeholders for onboarding new high-risk AML merchants or maintaining business relationships with high-risk AML/CFT merchants
  • Contributes to developing and maintaining ML/TF and sanctions risk assessment framework (EWRA) and Individual Risk Assessment Methodology
  • Draft assigned policies, procedures, and instructions which are managed by the Compliance function
  • Makes observations regarding the effectiveness of AML/CFT controls in accordance with the organization’s risk appetite and, if needed, proposes changes to the processes, systems, or procedures
  • Proposes changes if needed on the effectiveness of AML/CTF transaction monitoring rules
  • Proposes changes to Geographical Risk Methodology and Countries List
  • Assists and cooperates with the Compliance function within the Companies in the group
  • Actively participates in the annual group compliance planning activity and acts according to the approved Compliance plan
  • Carries out all actions personally, to act in good faith, fairly, and prudently
  • Supports in drafting and/or reviewing policies, procedures, and instructions managed by other units
  • Constantly improves qualification by participating in external training, seminars, workshops, and researching best practices published by international organizations and national authorities
  • Performs other duties specifically assigned to this role as defined in the policies, procedures, and instructions managed by the Group Compliance Unit
