📰 What’s Happening

In May 2025, Vietnam Airlines released a formal tender to wet-lease one Airbus A320 or A321, with the aircraft to be delivered from mid-June to late October. This followed earlier efforts to secure capacity for the Lunar New Year, during which the airline sought up to three A320s to manage demand.

By July, the latest agreement materialized: SmartLynx Airlines, a leading European ACMI provider, is now operating two Airbus A320-200s on behalf of Vietnam Airlines. This allows the Vietnamese flag carrier to add over 85,000 seats across 500+ flights, primarily focused on busy domestic routes for the Summer 2025 travel peak.

🌍 Why This Matters

  1. Mutual Opportunity:
Both airlines benefit, SmartLynx expands into Southeast Asia, and Vietnam Airlines strengthens its summer schedule without waiting on long-term deliveries.
  2. Smart Fleet Planning:
Vietnam Airlines has turned to wet-leasing as a short-term solution to growing demand, reflecting a broader trend in 2025’s aviation strategy playbook.
  3. Global Synergy at Work:
This is what the future of aviation looks like: regional leaders collaborating across borders for smarter, more flexible operations.

At MHC Aviation, we believe in building strong, long-term relationships that support aviation’s evolving demands. We are excited to see Vietnam Airlines and SmartLynx find common ground in a solution that works for both parties, and proud to stand alongside them as trusted partners.

Here’s to a successful summer operation, and to more inspiring cross-border collaborations in the future.
